The Bereavement Services Care Team at Nene Valley Crematorium have raised £11,600 for the Intensive Care Unit at Kettering General Hospital. North Northamptonshire Council’s company operated crematorium serves the community of Wellingborough, and beyond.

The Intensive Care Unit at Kettering General Hospital provide patients with much needed critical care and visitors a safe space where they can be sure their loved ones are receiving the highest level of treatment.

Manager and Registrar, Tracy Lawrence, presented a cheque along with the Bereavement Services Care Team on Tuesday 21 January 2025 to Northamptonshire Health Charity’s Corporate and Community Fundraiser, Nick Hayton.

These funds are a result of the crematorium’s membership with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management, who have adopted a recycling of metals policy via a European company, OrthoMetals. The scheme continues to grow because of the Institute’s partnership with OrthoMetals, raising significant monetary contributions to hundreds of charities that has reached more than 20 million.

Metals recovered after cremation are recycled with the express consent of bereaved people, being the persons entitled and empowered to make this decision. For further information, please visit the Orthometals website and view the film of their process.

Since the opening of the crematorium on 19 September 2016, the team have nominated 8 local charities that have collectively benefitted from £101,000 because of this recycling scheme.

The team at the Nene Valley Crematorium have a long history of raising money for charity and this significant contribution will directly support Kettering General Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, helping to enhance the care and treatment of patients.
