“Freedom Day” at Nene Valley Crematorium (Offering memorial services at no cost)

The team at North Northamptonshire council’s Nene Valley Crematorium at Wellingborough are reaching out to persons who arranged a funeral between 23 March 2020 to 18 July 2021 inclusive. This is to establish if you would like to arrange a memorial service in commemoration of your loved one, at no cost to you, then we would like to hear from you.
Primarily we are providing this offering because we know that many people who would have attended a funeral could not be there, due to restrictions on permitted numbers because of Covid-19, and because it may just be that the memory of the funeral was just not as you would have liked it to be.
Manager at the crematorium, Tracy Lawrence, said: “To feel and see how grieving people have suffered throughout the pandemic because of restrictions surrounding saying goodbye at funerals has been beyond feeling so wrong for my team to deal with – to subsequently be part of providing an opportunity to bring people together for an event like a memorial service supports our “bereavement-led” ethos at Nene Valley Crematorium”.

If this feeling resonates with you, find out more about how to put this wrong right by arranging a memorial service in memory of your loved one for all those people who would like to pay their respects in person, then please contact a team member on 01933 229660.

Chair for the Board of Directors at Nene Valley Crematorium, Councillor Paul Bell, added: “This will be an opportunity for wider family and friends to say goodbye to their loved ones, remembering good times”.

The team at Nene Valley Crematorium have raised £12,000 for a local charity, MIND. North Northamptonshire Council’s company operated crematorium serves the community of Wellingborough, and beyond. MIND provides frontline mental health and wellbeing services. The raised funds will be utilised to allow hundreds of people to access crucial support services that can be lifesaving, including, counselling, crisis support, one-to-one support, encompassing support groups and peer support. On behalf of the Company’s Chair for the Board of Directors, Councillor Paul Bell, responsible for Wellingborough Bereavement Services, a cheque was presented on Tuesday 20 June 2023 by the Operations Director (and NNC’s Assistant Director for Regulatory Services), Iain Smith to MIND’s Business Development Director, Dion Hunt. These funds are a result of the crematorium’s membership with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management, who have adopted a recycling of metals policy via a European company, OrthoMetals.
