To support a need to focus on developing the business further, the Manager and Registrar at the Crematorium in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire is recruiting to expand the Company’s current dedicated team. Tailoring funerals and memorials to suit bereaved people’s needs is crucial. We are therefore looking to find more caring and dedicated individuals, who are equally flexible and committed to high standards of customer service, when responding to requests to create a funeral that reflects an accurate memory picture of the person who lived – “As well as you really wanting a longer-term career in our caring profession, I would initially welcome a chat with you”.
General – when reacting to personalised requests you will be expected to work shifts to accommodate a seven-day working rota; hours will vary and will be determined by service delivery requirements. Therefore, weekend working and occasional evening cover will be required. There is also a requirement that management post holders are on call for the alarm system via a four-week rota.
Adapting to meet customer’s individual needs is crucial, so the ability to multitask in parallel with an eye for attention to detail in a busy environment is essential, as is maintaining a high standard of cleaning and general housekeeping, both inside and out – there will also be a responsibility for carrying our minor repairs and maintenance within some roles.

Head Gardener – salary circa £23,000 to £29,000
(salary subject to experience and qualifications held)

Passionate about all things green, reporting directly to the Manager and Registrar, you need to have the ability to work with senior managers to contribute towards shaping the development of the Garden of Remembrance into a place of peace and tranquillity for bereaved people to visit. You will be experienced in working within gardens of remembrance or similar, following horticultural designs for landscaping projects with the ability to interpret specifications, plans and/or drawings for projects or specific work. In addition, you will co-ordinate a wide range of horticultural duties including planting, pruning, grass seeding/cutting, the application of chemicals, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
It is essential that you hold the appropriate horticultural qualifications, able to bear coffins, and can demonstrate proven experience in managing a small team by supervising daily tasks and periodic staff appraisals, ideally within a bereavement or caring profession.
Gardener/Relief Cremator Technician – circa £17,000
(Supportive individual required)
Equally passionate about all things green, focussed on outcomes and reporting directly to the Head Gardener you need to have the ability to follow instructions to ensure duties are completed in a timely fashion. These include, cutting grass, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, planting flowers, shrubs and trees, strimming, weeding and any other horticultural duties.
You will assist the Head Gardener with the maintenance of the memorial gardens within the Garden of Remembrance (site) and possess the ability to provide high standards of work. In addition, you will support your line manager in contributing towards landscape schemes, as well as working on a wide range of horticultural duties as described, including the application of chemicals, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
Ideally you will therefore hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to undertake training to achieve them.
As Relief Cremator Technician you will operate the cremator, and be responsible for accurate data entry of the cremation process, so will need to demonstrate a good level of IT skill, and have the ability to produce related reports (when required) in accordance with Environmental Health Authority requirements.
Ideally you will hold the appropriate cremator operator qualification or be willing to undertake training to achieve it. You will have the ability to bear coffins, if required, and will carry out the scattering of ashes, as well as carrying out minor repairs, maintenance and housekeeping of all areas, including the cleaning of memorials.
Operations Manager – salary circa £29,000 to £33,000
(“Hands on” Manager required)
Reporting directly to the Manager and Registrar, your primary responsibility is to manage the crematory, associated working areas and act as Senior Cremator Technician.It is essential that you hold the appropriate cremator operator qualification, able to bear coffins, and can demonstrate proven experience in managing a small team by supervising daily tasks and periodic staff appraisals, ideally within a bereavement or caring profession.You will be responsible for operating the cremator and working front of house dealing with customers, funeral directors and ceremony leaders, when covering Ceremony Hall/Chapel duties and reception. Your duties will also include ensuring that cleaning standards are always met, minor repairs and maintenance are carried out, including housekeeping and the cleaning of memorials.
You will ensure accurate data entry of the cremation process and therefore hold essential IT skills and can interpret statistical data for subsequent management scrutiny.You will therefore hold the relevant management qualifications and/or experience. Similarly, you will hold the profession’s cremator operator certificated qualification, or be willing to train to work towards obtaining it, as well as excellent co-ordination skills. You will act as chapel attendant when required (and supporting office tasks would be advantageous) as you will occasionally be required to provide administrative support, including assisting people as they select memorials in commemoration of their loved one.
Caretaker/Cleaner – salary £16,700 (pro rata)
(part-time with specific hours to be confirmed)

Helping to deliver an integral service to the local community and reporting directly to the Operations Manager your main duties and responsibilities of the post include carrying out vital day-to-day and periodic cleaning, minor repairs, maintenance and light horticulture duties within and around the area of the crematorium building, and the crematorium grounds, when additional support is required.
The role involves general light gardening duties including the maintenance of baskets, tubs and weeding around frontline areas.
For future planning, providing cover to operate cremation ancillary equipment for holidays and sickness is desired.
The successful candidate will need to be highly flexible with an organised approach to the role. They will need to be a good team player and have experience of amenity procedures and practices and the ability to safely operate a wide range of cleaning materials and hand tools.
Good general DIY skills, an understanding of outstanding customer care and the ability to work with minimal supervision is also a requirement.
