Do you wish to make a difference in a sensitive front-line service as part of a multi-skilled team? Do you have the ability to motivate and lead a team?
If so, then you may just be the person we are looking for to join
Nene Valley Crematorium
Operations Supervisor (“Hands on” Manager required) – full time, salary competitive (under review)
In 2015 Wellingborough council embarked upon an innovative project to build a very modern crematorium for the local community, which opened on 19 September 2016.
Following appointments of a compassionate and dedicated team and the crematorium’s recent success, we are now looking to complement this, to continue in providing the best service possible for local people and make such a difficult time for them as smooth and straightforward as possible.
Reporting directly to the Crematorium’s Manager, your primary responsibility is to act as senior cremator technician and oversee the smooth running of the chapel, encompassing management of staff and registrar duties when deputising in the absence of the manager and the Office Supervisor.
Given the administrative and operational tasks of the services provided are so closely interlinked, you will work in partnership with the Office Supervisor to ensure the smooth-running of the funerals. This close working relationship will include the responsibility for the co-ordination of daily tasks and the team rota as well as your core responsibility of operating the cremator and working front of house dealing with all types of customers, including bereaved people, funeral directors and ceremony leaders. It is therefore essential that you hold the appropriate cremator operator qualification, able to bear coffins if required, and can demonstrate proven experience in managing operational staff within a bereavement profession.
You will ensure accurate data entry of the cremation process and therefore also hold essential IT skills and possess the ability to interpret statistical data for subsequent management scrutiny to provide to the Environmental Health Authority. Your duties will also include ensuring that minor repairs and maintenance are carried out, including cleaning as required.
You will be experienced in mentoring staff, and managing gardens of remembrance, following horticultural designs for landscaping projects with the ability to interpret specifications, plans and/or drawings for projects or specific work. In addition, you will co-ordinate a wide range of horticultural duties including planting, pruning, grass seeding/cutting, the application of chemicals, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. Occasionally you will provide administrative support, including assisting people as they select memorials in commemoration of their loved one when required.
You will therefore hold the relevant qualifications and/or experience both as a cremator operator and as mentor, as well as excellent co-ordination skills.
There is a requirement that this post holder is on call for the alarm system via a rota, which includes some weekend working. This is a permanent role and you will be expected to work shifts to accommodate a seven-day working rota; hours will vary, but will be determined by service delivery requirements, which may include occasional evenings.
In summary: Adapting to meet customer’s individual needs is crucial, so the ability to multitask in a busy environment is essential. Carrying out, maintaining and ensuring a high standard of cleaning and general housekeeping, both inside and out is paramount, which includes a responsibility for ensuring that minor repairs and maintenance occurs.
To apply for this permanent role: In the first instance to find out if this is the role and environment for you, for an informal discussion and/or visit to the crematorium please contact Tracy Lawrence, Manager and Registrar for Nene Valley Crematorium on 07904 457372.
